No Generative AI
Every manuscript is edited by our own editors at every stage. We do not use generative AI to edit, rewrite, translate, or summarise an author’s work, and we do not upload that work to AI services.
How We WorkEditing Press is a boutique editorial firm. Our editors do all of the work, from the first reading to the final proof, and no part of an author’s text is processed by generative AI.
Editing Press is a small firm of published academics who edit, proofread, and translate for authors, researchers, and research institutes. Authors keep full ownership of their work. We do not reuse or publish it, and we do not submit it to AI systems for any purpose, including training.
Our editors have worked on academic, institutional, and professional writing for more than 20 years.
We work with postgraduate researchers, established authors, and research institutes, on anything from a single article to an institute’s full publication programme.

For editing and translation of both academic and fiction work, send us an e-mail with a brief description, the word count, and the timeframe with which you are working. Indicate relevant instructions and, if you can, include a 1-page sample of your work. This will enable us to provide a more accurate proposal for the fee and schedule of work. We typically respond to queries within the hour. If we cannot do the work, we will let you know right away.
Once a fee and schedule of work is agreed, payment is typically arranged through our secure payment portal, which is externally operated by Stripe. The fee includes as many rounds of revisions as necessary to take the work to its final and polished form.
The form of the actual editing process will depend on the project. For academic work that is undergoing a Thorough Edit, we typically work in pairs. This ensures that you receive a more rounded opinion of your manuscript, free of the idiosyncrasies that may afflict working with a single editor. This process is available for fiction work as well. If you wish to forego the double review, that is fine, too.
For General Proofreading, a single editor runs through the document at least twice. Our translation process, on the other hand, is a lot more engaged and usually requires a few conversations between the editor and writer to make sure that each and every part of the work is true to the original language.
Many authors like to send their essay, dissertation, or work of fiction back for a second and sometimes third round of proofreading or editing. We are happy to provide subsequent rounds of revision at no extra cost.
It is a special pleasure to establish intellectual relationships with academics and writers who choose to work with us. The engagement between writer and editor becomes more profound with time and the work noticeably improves as a result.
Our work will speak for itself and we would wish that you come back in the future as a result of it. As a ‘thank you’, however, we discount 25 per cent off the fee for every third project you bring to us.
The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established by Editing Press in 2018 to provide editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines. Scholarships are open to every discipline and are awarded three times per year, with no institutional, departmental, or national restrictions.
Learn MoreWe are happy to offer pro bono editing and writing services to asylum-seekers and refugees who are submitting applications to their local UNHCR office and / or their resident state. Given the volume of our pro bono editorial work, please allow 48 hours for a response.
